LeChaim Farm — Reading Plant Signals Before Feeding

LeChaim Farm — Reading Plant Signals Before Feeding

This is Part 2 of the LeChaim Farm Practical Guide Series.

In Part 1, we simplified feeding into a system you can follow without overthinking:
👉 Most days, just use BioMax.

But that raises a better question:

How do you know when to use something else?

This is where most growers guess.

This post is about removing that guesswork.

Balcony tomato plant carrying several developing fruits alongside green, yellowing and dried leaves.
A fruiting plant may display healthy growth, natural leaf ageing and environmental stress at the same time. Before feeding, read the whole plant—new growth, older leaves, fruit load, moisture and recent conditions—not one yellow leaf in isolation.

🧠 Plants Are Always “Talking”

Plants don’t need more inputs.
They give signals.

Your job is not to feed more —
your job is to read first, then respond.

🌿 Signal 1 — Healthy Growth (Do Nothing Extra)

What you see:

  • Leaves expanding normally
  • Good color (not pale, not too dark)
  • New growth steady

👉 Action:
🟢 Stay on BioMax

No need to “improve” anything.

🟡 Signal 2 — Stress or Slowdown

What you see:

  • Leaves drooping during the day
  • Transplant shock
  • Slower growth after heavy rain or heat

👉 Action:
🟡 Use Seaweed (once)

This is not feeding —
this is helping the plant recover.

🌸 Signal 3 — Flowering Begins

What you see:

  • First buds forming
  • Flower clusters appearing

👉 Action (optional):
🌸 Use Floral-K (once or twice)

This encourages more flowering sites.

After this phase:
👉 You can stop Floral-K completely

🍅 Signal 4 — Fruits Are Forming

What you see:

  • Tiny fruits visible
  • Fruits starting to enlarge

👉 Action:
🔴 Use High-K

This is the main driver for:

  • Fruit size
  • Density
  • Sweetness (for melon 👀)

⚙️ Signal 5 — Structural Weakness

What you see:

  • New leaves slightly distorted
  • Weak stems
  • Fast-growing plants under heavy load

👉 Action:
⚙️ Use Cal-Mag (light, occasional)

Not daily. Not frequent.
Just enough support.

🟤 Signal 6 — Soil Health (Silent Signal)

You don’t “see” this directly.

But if your soil has:

  • Vermicast
  • Organic matter

👉 Then your system is already buffered.

This is why you don’t need constant feeding.

⚖️ The Most Common Mistake

Seeing a plant and thinking:

“What should I add?”

Instead, ask:

“What is the plant trying to do right now?”

Growth?
Recovery?
Flowering?
Fruiting?

Then choose one response.

🔁 Putting It All Together

Here’s the full loop:

  • 🌿 Growing well → stay on BioMax
  • 🟡 Looks stressed → Seaweed (once)
  • 🌸 Starts flowering → Floral-K (short phase)
  • 🍅 Fruits forming → High-K
  • ⚙️ Needs support → Cal-Mag (light)

One signal. One response.

🌱 Final Thought

The goal is not to control everything.

The goal is to respond correctly.

When you stop guessing and start reading your plants,
feeding becomes simple — and consistent.
